County Board Statement on Indigenous Peoples' Day

Published on October 11, 2021

The County Board has issued the following statement regarding Indigenous Peoples' Day.

The Arlington County Board celebrates Indigenous Peoples’ Day on October 11 and is proud to share that the day is also being recognized by Arlington Public Schools as well as by the Commonwealth of Virginia, to give recognition to Virginia tribes.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebrates the resilience of our tribal communities and formally recognizes Virginia’s eleven Indian tribes. Here in Arlington, we encourage everyone to commemorate the day and use it as an opportunity to educate ourselves on the complete history of our country.
