REPORTS


ROBBERY/DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY, 2020-08300215/08310015, 18th Street S. at Crystal Drive. At approximately 10:35 p.m. on August 30, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined that the suspect allegedly approached the victim inside of a commercial building and requested money. The victim declined and suspect then struck the victim multiple times, implied he had a firearm and fled on foot. As the victim exited the building, he was approached by the suspect, who sprayed him with a fire extinguisher and again fled on foot. The victim was not injured. At approximately 12:53 a.m., an officer observed the suspect in the area of 18th Street S. and S. Bell Street and detained him without incident. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that at approximately 11:55 p.m., the same suspect allegedly threw a wine bottle at a window in the 1800 block of S. Bell Street, causing it to break. John Smith, 26, of No Fixed Address, was arrested and charged with Destruction of Property and Drunk in Public. The investigation into the robbery is ongoing.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2020-08300026, 1200 block of S. Arlington Ridge Road. At approximately 1:10 a.m. on August 30, police were dispatched to the report of breaking and entering in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victims were awoken by noise and observed the unknown suspect inside their residence. Arriving officers located the suspect and took him into custody without incident. Bryan Zemanski, 40, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with Unlawful Entry.

ROBBERY, 2020-08300019, 2300 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 12:36 a.m. on August 30, police were dispatched to the late report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 11:00 p.m., the male suspect approached the window counter of a business, and attempted to reach inside while the employee turned away to retrieve merchandise. The suspect stepped away from the counter, then returned and attempted to reach through the window again before completing his purchase. Approximately two minutes later, the suspect re-approached the counter and attempted to purchase additional items. As the employee turned around to retrieve merchandise, the suspect reached through the window and grabbed money that was on the counter. A brief struggle ensued, and suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash then fled on foot prior to police arrival. The victim sustained minor injuries. The suspect is described as a Black male, wearing an army green jacket, a blue surgical mask and tan baseball cap. The investigation is ongoing.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY (late), 2020-08280082, 2000 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 9:45 a.m. on August 28, police were dispatched to the report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 8:20 a.m., the victim awoke to find the unknown suspect asleep inside his residence. Upon making contact with the suspect and asking him to leave, he exited the residence and fled on foot prior to police arrival. The suspect is described as an older White male, bald, with a full gray beard and wearing jeans. The investigation is ongoing.
