County Board to Pilot Virtual "Open Door Mondays" During CO

Published on April 09, 2020

Arlington County Board Chair Libby Garvey announced today that the Board will pilot a virtual format for Open Door Mondays, the informal weekly sessions where individuals or small groups can meet one-on-one with a Board Member to raise any issue, on Monday, April 13, 2020.

"The Board — and the public — love these informal gatherings, where we can talk informally on any issue anyone wants to discuss with a Board Member," Garvey said. "In these very stressful times, my colleagues and I think it is important that Open Door Mondays continue — safely. So, we are going to try a virtual format. Participation is easy -- just fill out a very brief RSVP on the County website, then join us virtually, or by phoning in, at 7 p.m. Monday, April 13 We look forward to hearing from you."

How to participate

  1. Fill out a brief RSVP form on the County website

  2. Receive an acknowledgement email, beginning the Friday afternoon before the scheduled Open Door Monday

  3. Use the link in the acknowledgement email, or the phone number, to join the Open Door Monday, starting at 7 p.m. on the night of the session.

  4. Keep your conversation brief to ensure everyone gets their turn.

  5. Virtual Open Door Monday sessions will end at 8:30 p.m.

What you should know

The acknowledgement email will include your number in the queue. The Board Member may group callers who are speaking on the same issue together. You can only sign up for one Open Door Monday at a time, and only for the one following the Tuesday that the RSVP form goes live on the County website. RSVPs will be accepted until noon on the same day the Open Door Monday is held. You will be able to hear the conversation between the Board Member and each participant, and you can unmute yourself, or post to the chat, if you want to join in a conversation on an item. If you have a COVID-19-related question or concern, you may want to join County Board Chair Libby Garvey, Board Member Christian Dorsey and senior County staff at noon on Fri., April 10, 2020 for a Facebook Live COVID-19 Town Hall.
