Statement on Recent ART Bus Incidents
Published on August 08, 2019
Arlington Transit (ART) buses were involved in two incidents this week — one on Tuesday at eastbound Columbia Pike and South George Mason Drive, and a collision today on northbound North Barton Street at 10th
Street North. The Columbia Pike incident is currently under investigation. For the collision on North Barton Street at 10th
Street North, the driver of the other vehicle involved was cited by Arlington County Police for running a red light. The two incidents are isolated and unrelated.
We are incredibly thankful that no one was seriously injured in these incidents, which the County and ART take very seriously.
ART's number one priority is the safety of our riders and others on the road. Once investigations are complete, ART and our contractor, National Express, are committed to taking all measures necessary to prevent similar occurrences in the future, and to restoring confidence in the safety and reliability of the ART bus system.
