In Arlington:

Get Counted!

Most military households will be responsible for submitting their own 2020 Census form. Members of the military will be counted with their household if that is where they live, but active duty service members may face some special circumstances. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's military fact sheet, here's how to be counted if:

  • You are stationed in or living in the United States and NOT deployed. Unless you are assigned to barracks or dormitories as of April 1, 2020, you should fill out a 2020 Census form. Whether you live on or off a military base, you are counted in the place where you live and sleep most of the time.

  • You are living in military barracks or dormitories. You should not fill out a 2020 Census form. A representative of the living quarters will fill out the census form and count you as part of the barracks or dormitory.

  • You are deployed or assigned outside the United States, or you are assigned to a U.S. military vessel with a home port outside the United States as of April 1, 2020. You should not fill out a 2020 Census form. You will be counted by the U.S. Department of Defense. "Outside the United States" includes U.S. Territories

APRIL 1, 2020 IS CENSUS DAY! The U.S. Census counts every resident in the nation, including right here in Arlington County. As mandated by the U.S. Constitution, America gets just one chance each decade to count its population. The collected data helps to determine things like the number of seats Virginia has in the House of Representatives, and how to distribute federal funds to local communities like ours.
