Police Announce Arrest in Ballston-Virginia Square Homicide

ARLINGTON, Va. — A Woodbine, Md. man was arrested and charged for his involvement in a March 16, 2018 homicide in the Ballston-Virginia Square neighborhood. Jitesh Patel, 42, has been charged with Murder, Burglary While Armed and Possession of a Firearm while in the Commission of a Felony. Patel is being held in Howard County, Maryland pending extradition to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

At approximately 7:35 p.m. on March 16, police were dispatched to the report of a possible death. Following a check on the welfare, arriving officers located John Giandoni deceased from apparent gunshot wounds inside his residence.

Arlington County Police detectives commenced an intensive four-month investigation, reviewing crime scene evidence and conducting numerous interviews. This review revealed additional information about Patel's relationship to the victim that led detectives to identify him as the suspect. With assistance from the Howard County Police Department, the suspect was arrested on July 20, 2018 without incident at his residence.
