October 2017 County Board Meeting Agenda Highlights

The Arlington County Board will consider dozens of items at its October 2017 meeting, on Sat., Oct. 21, 2017 and Tues., Oct. 24. These public meetings are held in the County Board Room on the third floor of 2100 Clarendon Blvd. See information on speaking at a Regular County Board meeting.

For the Sat., Oct. 21 County Board Regular Meeting

Shirlington Road Property: The Board will consider approval of a resolution to acquire properties at 2629 and 2633 Shirlington Road for public purposes, and if unsuccessful to acquire by eminent domain. The County plans to use this industrially-zoned land to accommodate current and anticipated future public transit facility needs. (Agenda item No. 35, though it follows No. 20.)

Capital Projects

  • The Board will consider a contract award for partial renovation/modernization of Central Library. (Agenda item No. 23.)

  • Approval of a contract award for pedestrian safety and streetscape improvements for Clarendon Blvd at 15th North, in the Courthouse area. (Agenda item No. 24.)


Next Generation 9-1-1: Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Arlington County and the City of Alexandria for Next Generation 9-1-1 call processing technology. (Agenda item No. 30.)

Outdoor Cafes: The Board will decide on a request to advertise public hearings to amend the Zoning Ordinance to give the Board authority to modify certain standards for outdoor cafes on private property by use permit. (Agenda item No. 36.)

The Board will decide on a request to advertise a public hearing for an open-air market license agreement between the County and CPRO for the Arlington Mill Community Center Plaza. (Agenda item No. 37.)

Washington Blvd./Kirkwood Road: The Board will decide on a request to advertise for public hearings on adopting a Washington Blvd. and Kirkwood Road Special General Land Use Plan Study Plus and Concept Plan.  (Agenda item No. 43.)

The Board will decide on a request to advertise public hearings on revisions of the accessory dwelling regulations, to increase the opportunity for residents to add accessory dwellings, while maintaining the residential neighborhood character. (Agenda item No. 44.)

The Board will decide on a request to advertise a public hearing for an off-street parking policy for multi-family residential projects approved by special exception in the Rosslyn-Ballston and Jefferson Davis Metro corridors. (Agenda item No. 45.)

At the 3 p.m. session: The County Board Chair, members of the County Board and the County Manager will report on local and regional items of interest. At the 6:30 p.m. session, the Board will hold public hearings on any item carried over from the Oct. 21 Consent Agenda.

Budget: The County Manager will share a Budget forecast for the upcoming Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 and also the financial results and close-out information for FY 2017. (Agenda items No. 46 & 47.)
