Arlington Launches Electronic Plan Review

  • ePlan Review allows online review, approval for building permit, land disturbance applications

  • No more paper applications for land disturbance applications, building permits

  • Part of One-Stop Arlington

  • Payments still made in person

Arlington County today launched  Electronic Plan (ePlan) Review, a new online system for reviewing and approving plans for building permits and land disturbance applications. By eliminating paper applications,  ePlan Review will improve customer service by beginning to streamline the permitting process.

With ePlan Review, customers will no longer submit paper applications for land disturbing activity permits and building permits, including residential and commercial new construction, additions and renovations. Instead, they will submit an online application through the ePlan Review portal.

"Electronic Plan Review is the first of many projects we'll be rolling out to provide a faster, more efficient building permit and development review process," said Arlington County Manager Mark Schwartz. "By making the switch from paper to digital, we're saving our customers time and money."

A step-by-step video tutorial and other helpful on-line resources will help applicants easily submit plans through the portal. The new system eliminates the need for customers to hand-deliver multiple copies to different County offices. All applications, plans and comments will be stored in a centralized location online, which will make it easier for County staff to review plans and track the status of an application, and will ensure that the most up-to-date plans are available for customers and staff.

The County does not yet accept online payments for permit fees. On-line payments will be possible when the County's new permitting system is completed in December 2017. Until then, customers can pay permit fees with a check, debit card or credit card in person at the service counters on the 8th and 10th floors of Courthouse Plaza, 2100 Clarendon Blvd.

Pay fees for residential and commercial building permits at the Inspection Services Division service (ISD) counter on the 10th Floor. Pay fees for land disturbing activity permits at the Development Services Permitting and Inspections service counter on the 8th floor.

If customers need assistance, they can visit the Inspection Services Division (ISD) Permitting Office at 2100 Clarendon Blvd., 10th floor, or call County staff at 703-228-3800.
