Arlington County Board Delays Jan. Regular Meeting

  • Agenda moved to previously advertised Tues., Jan. 26 Recessed Meeting

  • Chair cites storm-related safety concerns

Arlington County Board Chair Libby Garvey announced today that, due to safety concerns stemming from the approaching blizzard, the Board will not convene its Regular January, 2016 Meeting on Saturday, January 23 until 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, the Board's previously scheduled Recessed Meeting date. At the Tuesday meeting, the Board will consider all items on its January 2016 Agenda.

"No one can remember the last time the Board had to take this extraordinary step," Garvey said, "but safety is our first concern. The blizzard heading our way today is expected to be very serious, even life-threatening. We are asking everyone to stay off the roads this weekend -- it would be irresponsible to ask staff, applicants and the public to come out to a Board Meeting. The Board will consider the entire January Meeting Agenda at its scheduled Tuesday January 26 Recessed Meeting."

The County Board normally convenes its monthly Regular County Board Meeting on a Saturday, and continues the meeting at a Recessed Meeting the following Tuesday. With the Chair's announcement, the Agenda has been revised, and all items have been moved to the Tuesday Recessed meeting.
