seniors using computerYou have the skills, passion and energy. Wisdom Works has been created to help you find your unique way to make a difference. Arlington County launched its Wisdom Works project with a demonstration grant from the MetLife Foundation through the National Council on the Aging, exploring ways to put wisdom to work in American communities.

  • Find a Volunteer Role: There are loads of volunteer roles to support the community’s Wisdom Works project. Opportunities to make a difference abound right here in our community. Find one that fits your passion, skills and availability
  • Peer Transition Guides: Explore possibilities one-on-one! If you are looking for personal, one-on-one help concerning the possibilities available at this stage of life, there are resources to help. Trained peer advisors can to guide you in your journey. Come to a Connections Café for more information.
  • Connections Cafés: Find a place to connect! Visit the Connections Café at the Walter Reed Community Center or related programs at Arlington Central Library. Over a cup of coffee or tea, chat with a volunteer consultant to learn about community service opportunities that fit your interests and talents. You can search out options on the Café computers (help provided).
  • Learn Through Workshops and Roundtables: Discover the paths and resources available to you here in Arlington through retirement transition workshops, monthly talks with community service agencies, and roundtable conversations.

Wisdom Works Team Forming

Wisdom Works, Arlington's innovative civic engagement program for experienced adults, is recruiting for a new project. Needed: Arlingtonians interested in helping older people remain in their homes by developing a program of shared services, socializing and recreation. This Wisdom Works team will work to create opportunities that help people flourish as they age in a condominium community.

Volunteers will be interviewed as part of the team selection process. Wisdom Works is seeking candidates who know how to work well with a group, have good communication skills, actively listen, and can fully participate with the team.

Wisdom Works is a national movement of mature adults teaming up to address community challenges and opportunities. The goal of this Wisdom Works team in Arlington is to develop a replicable model that will support residents who wish to remain in their homes comfortably, safely and on their own terms. Interested?
