The community garden project in Arlington was designed to help engage residents in physical activity through maintaining the gardens and to promote healthful eating. Programs in both gardening and nutrition were provided to connect residents to the land and to develop a strong foundation.

Community gardens are areas of unused open space where neighbors gather to collectively manage and care for a piece of land. These areas serve as a way for urban residents to grow their own fruits and vegetables, and to interact with both the environment and their neighbors.
