Arlington celebrates the incredible diversity of our community. Through this multi-cultural heritage, the County is strengthened and empowered. Black History Month is the perfect time to reflect and celebrate the experiences of African Americans. Below is a listing of a number of County events held in honor of Black History Month in 2010.

Gospel Choir Sings in honor of Black History Month
In celebration of Black History month, members of the Macedonia Baptist Church chorus, under the leadership of Minister Lois Nicholson, will perform a program of gospel music. Music represents an essential part of African American culture, and gospel music gives expression to the spiritual lives of its people. A lunch is served at noon; reservations are essential by Monday, Feb. 1.

Celebrate Black History Month with music, dance, art, exhibits, and great food by Bar-B-Que at Its Best! Performances by: Avon Dews, Image Band and Soul In Motion Players. Also R’Mar Dancers, Seven Step Hand Dance Academy, Macedonia Bells of Joy, Drew Dancers and Drew Steppers. Vendors and crafts from local African-American businesses; free H1N1 flu vaccination clinic.

Black History Month Celebration
In honor of Black History Month, Langston-Brown Senior Center will host a Gospel and Spiritual Sing-along. (Fred Brooks on trumpet and keyboard, Sherry Clarke singing). All are invited to come and share cultural expressions in food and dress. Come with your most precious Afrocentric dress, and bring a soulful dish to share with others.
