Let's Build Community

As part of Arlington READS, the library received numerous original works of poetry on the themes of change, life and identity. Ten finalists, whose work was selected in a juried competition, read their work at a community poetry reading at the Shirlington library, on October 1, 2006. If you missed the Arlington READS poetry reading, listen online to the thoughtful and diverse works.

Arlington Public Library chose Anne Tyler's Digging to America as its one book, one community read. The aim of the one book project is to restore reading to its place in American life and to make connections in communities through the reading of a single work. Digging to America tells the story of two very different American families whose lives intertwine after they meet by chance when adopting infants from Korea.
