Note on write-ins: A write-in vote is considered "Invalid" if it is not a proper name or otherwise meets one of the following:
- Left blank on ballot
- Phrase such as "none of the above" or "neither"
- Undecipherable or nonsense
- Clearly made-up name
- Fictional or cartoon characters
- Offensive
- Written in name of person who appears on the ballot for the same office
- In the case of County Board in 2011 where a voter can make two selections, if the same name is written in twice on a ballot, one is invalid because Virginia law does not allow a voter to vote more than once for the same person in an office.
