ARLINGTON COUNTY POLICE RECORDS MANAGEMENT SERVICES AND FEES

 

The Arlington County Police Records Management Section is open for business Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. or you can call (703) 228-4292 during normal business hours for assistance.

Fees are accepted in the form of cash, credit/debit card, money order and company check (payable to the Treasurer of Arlington)

Criminal History Background Check:

Five dollar fee ($5.00) 

In order to obtain a Criminal History Background Check on yourself you have to appear in person at 1425 N. Courthouse Road, Suite 2100, Arlington, VA 22201. Please provide a valid “unexpired” government issued photo ID, i.e…

  • Driver’s license
  • Passport/Visa
  • Green card
  • State issued ID card

This police check covers arrests made by Arlington County Police in Arlington County only. It does not include any arrests outside of jurisdiction or by other agencies.

To get a copy of someone else’s criminal history, you must present a current notarized authorization letter and a copy of a valid photo ID of the person whom you are requesting information on, as well as your valid ID. You may also present a power attorney, which indicates that you are authorized to conduct a criminal background check on the individual from the Arlington County Police Dept or from all local police departments within Virginia.

NOTE: You must appear in person if you reside within the Washington Metropolitan area. If you live outside of the area you can request a Criminal History by mail. Please click on the attached link and follow the instructions completely. Criminal History Background check - outside area (PDF)

Police Incident Report Verifications:

Five dollar fee ($5.00) 

If you are the victim, complaint/reported party and are listed on the report as such, you are entitled to receive a Police Report Verification. The verification will include information from the original report, such as:

  • Victim’s name
  • Address
  • Offense
  • Report number
  • Brief summary
  • Stolen/damaged items
  • Injuries received

The request can be made in person or by mail. Please include a photo copy of your ID and all the necessary information concerning the incident along with your request.

NOTE: If you are the suspect or arrestee or the attorney representing either or have questions about receiving a copy of a Police Report, please contact the Internal Affairs Division at (703)228-4161.

Accident Reports:

Three dollar fee ($3.00) 

Accident reports are released to:

  • Parties involved
  • Owners of property involved
  • Injured passengers/Pedestrian (if listed on the report)

Insurance companies and attorneys representing person(s) involved are also entitled to receive copies.

If your name or your client’s name is not on the report, a copy will not be released.

There are three options to obtain an accident report:

 

  • In person (Arlington County Police Department.  1425 North Courthouse Road.  Suite # 2100.  Arlington, VA 22201)
  • By mail (Include a copy of your ID and mail to the above address)
  • Online (In addition to the $3.00 fee, you will also be charged a convenience fee of $5.50)
