Stay fit physically and mentally through exercise. Choose from the following on-going programs to enhance your well being. Arlington Senior Fitness classes and sports activities are offered at a broad range of fitness levels during weekday hours. Check with individual centers for information on specialized classes.   • Senior Women's Basketball Programs (50+). The Langston Brown Community Center is the place for women age 50 and older to learn and play 3v3 half-court basketball on Wednesdays from 7-9pm. Participate in beginner and intermediate clinics, intramural play and drop in games. To join the fun and meet others who have discovered (or rediscovered) the joy of playing basketball, contact Helen White ( to be added to a mailing list or call the Office of Senior Adults Sports & Fitness Line at 703-228-4771.

Personal Fitness Assessment and Prescription

  • Specifically designed for the senior adult. Participants work with a certified fitness professional to design an individualized fitness plan, beginning with a specialized fitness test for senior adults and orientation to weight room equipment. Participants receive three additional sessions with their fitness coach and one other participant. For more information, please call Bernadette Cheatham at 703-228-4771.

Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

  • If you're 50 years of age or more and enjoy friendly competition, consider competing in the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics, held each year in late September. For details, visit or call 703-228-3600, extension 9996.
