Park Location and Context
The one-acre park is located at the southeast corner of the Ballston Common Mall, in Arlington. The Ballston area is one of Arlington's most vibrant urban villages with high-rise condominiums and apartments served by a variety of restaurants and other entertainment options.
The Mall is a 1.3 million square foot, four-level enclosed urban development located at the corner of Glebe Road and Wilson Boulevard. The mall, with 578,000 square feet of leasable area, features a major department store, a 12-screen stadium seating cinema, a health club, street-level restaurants, and over 200 retail stores.
The Arlington Ice Skating Center, a community ice skating/recreation center, as well as a practice/corporate office center for the Washington Capitals hockey team, is located on top of the Ballston Public Parking Garage.
Glebe Road is a major thoroughfare for shopping, services, and access to Routes 50 and 66. Across from the Park are a high-end automobile dealership/service center and an upscale grocery retailer. The adjacent indoor parking garage has 3,000 spaces, and is owned by Arlington County. The site is two blocks from Ballston Metro Station on the Orange Line, and is easily accessible from bus routes operated by Metrobus and Arlington Transit (ART).
Arlington County held a community meeting on May 15, 2012 at Washington-Lee HS to present and discuss temporary improvements at the Park. Please see the following flyer: Glebe & Randolph Park Public Meeting info.
