iCan Bike Camp - Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in Volunteering with iCan Bike! We need about 40-50 volunteers to make this camp successful. Please read the information below to determine if you are eligible and can make this commitment.

Physical Requirements

If you can walk steadily for an hour, you can be a spotter! Volunteers need to have the strength and physical stamina to hold up a rider, and keep up with him/her as confidence grows (we like to have 2 volunteers/rider, so people can take breaks). Depending on the rider, by the end of the week a volunteer may even be asked to ride his/her own bike alongside a camp rider on a trail or path (but please don’t let that be a barrier – we’ll work things out if you don’t ride, or don’t have a bike!).

Time Commitment

Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one session/time-slot for the entire week. This is important since the child comes to rely on/trust the volunteer throughout the week. Plus, you then have the satisfaction of seeing your rider learn, grow, and RIDE!

Session Times

8:30-9:45 a.m.
10:05-11:20 a.m.
11:40 a.m.-12:55 p.m.
2:00-3:30 p.m.
3:35-4:55 p.m.

Volunteers should arrive 15 minutes before the session start time (see above) and be able to stay the entire session. On Sunday, July 28 we invite all volunteers to an optional load-out of bikes and equipment from 3-4pm. All volunteers are expected to attend the mandatory orientation from 4-5 p.m.

What do I get?

In addition to the satisfaction of giving the gift of riding, volunteers will receive a t-shirt and will be provided lunch daily if you are volunteering around the lunch hours. We can also track your hours for any community service requirements.

Register Now

Register as a Volunteer

Interested? Make it a reality by registering in the DPR volunteer database. Please note a couple things:

  1. You will need to agree to a background check. In the case of minors, we do not run background checks for minors, but for registration purposes, a minor must still agree to it.
  2. The online registration form can be a bit daunting. Not to worry. The important sections to complete are:
    1. Contact Information
    2. Agreement/Release/Consent form
    3. Personal Information

The sections on Availability, Interests, Groups, and Geographic Area are optional.

Once you are registered, you'll receive an email confirming that you're signed up. It will contain a link to another page that will ask for some more information specific to iCan Bike.

After that, you'll get a confirmation about your hours. You can expect to hear from Marianne Joy in early June.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

Do you know others who might be interested? We are able to accommodate groups and individual volunteers for iCan Bike. Click on this flyer here and pass it on!
