Festival Time - Feel the Heritage Festival

Feel the HeritageSick of being buried in snow? Ready to get out? Looking for something festive?

Celebrate Black History Month this Saturday, February 20th from Noon to 5pm at Drew Community Center.

Dance to the Caribbean beat with Image Band, listen to the cool jazz of Avon Dews and enjoy the drumming and dancing of Soul in Motion.

Want more? How about BBQ at its Best!  Hand Dancing, Step Dancing, and Gospel!

I've been to this event several times and it's a lot of fun, not a huge event, but a lot of fun.

Blockbuster Art Sessions

I'm not much of an artist, but I think this sounds like a cool thing to try ...

Are you tired of staring at blank canvases or the computer screen that holds that novel you've stopped writing? Jolt your right brain into action by enjoying controlled creative chaos with artists and non artists alike in these fun and social sessions.

Unlock your inspiration through exploration of a variety of unconventional art materials and guided activities designed to restore your artistic mojo!

Sounds fun, huh?

These sessions are held every Thursday through March 25, from 7 - 9 PM at Fairlington Community Center. Pre-registration is required. Cost: $29.

Author Event - K Blows Topbook cover

As you may have heard me confess before, I have an odd interest in all things Russian ... so here's another one:

Nikita Khrushchev’s 1959 trip across America was one of the strangest exercises in international diplomacy ever conducted--“a surreal extravaganza,” as historian John Lewis Gaddis called it.

Former Washington Post writer Peter Carlson captures the times in "K Blows Top: A Cold War Comic Interlude Starring Nikita Khrushchev, America's Most Unlikely Tourist" as the Soviet leader threw tantrums, sparked a riot in a San Francisco supermarket, wowed coeds in Iowa, and ogled Arlington's own Shirley MacLaine. Books will be available for sale and signing at the conclusion of this event.

This event takes place at Central Library on Tuesday, February 23 at 7:00 PM. There is no charge for this event.

See you out!
