Ft. Myer Heights North Plan
Update
At its September 16, 2008 meeting, The County Board approved the 2008 Fort Myer Heights North Plan and the associated General Land Use Plan amendments. Consideration of the associated Zoning Ordinance amendments was deferred to the October 18, 2008 County Board Meeting.

At its May 5, 2007 meeting, the County Board deferred consideration of the following items until its November 2007 meeting:- Draft Fort Myer Heights North Plan (PDF Format );
- General Land Use Plan amendments; and
- Zoning Ordinance amendments.
At its April 16, 2005 meeting, the County Board approved the following items:
- A General Land Use Plan amendment to depict the "Fort Myer Heights North Special District"; and
- A Zoning Ordinance amendment to remove townhouses from the list of uses allowed by-right in the "Fort Myer Heights North Special District."
Overview
Purpose of the Study:
Develop a plan with recommendations that articulate community goals for this neighborhood and identify potential strategies and tools for conservation, reinvestment and/or redevelopment. Provide guidance for property owners and developers in shaping proposals, and for the community, the Planning Commission and other advisory groups, County staff and the County Board in reviewing them.
Boundaries:
Area designated “Medium” Residential on the General Land Use Plan, generally bordered by Clarendon Boulevard to the north, Arlington Boulevard to the south, N. Pierce Street to the east, and N. Scott Street and N. Courthouse Road to the west.
General Description of the Area:
- Neighborhood between major road corridors and Metro stops
- Not planned for higher-density redevelopment
- Existing development and public infrastructure showing signs of deterioration
- Older three and four story flat topped apartment buildings and townhouses
- Small single family residences divided into multiple units
- Mature trees and open spaces
- Significant amount of affordable housing
