This October, the Arlington County Treasurer’s Office extended an invitation to all high school students residing in Arlington to submit designs for the annual Vehicle Decal Design Competition. This year's competition was different than years past, as students were allowed to choose their background color, and the competition this year had a theme: the USS ARLINGTON.
The USS ARLINGTON (LPD 24) is one of three commemorative ships named in recognition of the tragic events of 9/11. Named for the county where the Pentagon is located, the USS ARLINGTON honors the memory of those whose lives were lost at the Pentagon, and the heroism of the first responders who risked their lives so others might live.
The winning design will appear in over 155,000 windshields when the 2013-2014 decals are issued next summer. All submissions received were narrowed down to four finalists by a Citizens' Panel. The four finalist designs appear below along with a description of each design written by the student.
Voting for the winning design is now open to the public. Vote for your choice by clicking one button from the list below. To see a larger image, click on the decal. Voting will close Thursday, January 24, 2013 at noon.
