    Retirement Board


    A board of ten trustees administers the Arlington County Employees' Retirement System as follows:
    • three trustees appointed by the County Board,
    • one trustee appointed by the County Manager
    • one trustee and one substitute trustee elected by general employees,
    • one trustee and one substitute trustee elected by police officers, firefighters, and deputy sheriffs, and
    • one trustee and one substitute trustee elected by retired employees.

    The three elected substitute trustees serve in the absence of their respective trustees. All trustees serve without compensation for a period of four years. Duties of the board include the management and oversight of the investment of system assets to fund retirement, disability, and death benefits for the active and retired members of the system. The board meets  monthly , normally on the first Thursday of each month. Board meetings are open to all employees and members of the public.
