Certificates of Recognition, signed by the Chairperson of the Arlington County Board, are awarded by the County and its Beautification Committee to Arlington businesses and other commercial and professional properties, and non-profit organizations (e.g. churches), which have displayed particularly effective landscaping installation and maintenance. Since these operations enhance our public area views and streetscapes, helping to make Arlington the special place that it is, the Committee feels that it is appropriate to recognize such contributions.
It is hoped that this program's recognition might encourage other organizations and businesses to follow the examples set by awardees' properties and enhance their own landscaping, recognizing the positive public relations value. Additionally, perhaps home owners will find new landscaping ideas or be motivated to replicate some aspects of the plantings on their own properties.
Members of the County Beautification Committee make nominations, but so may any citizen. Please return nomination forms to: Landscape and Forestry Section, Arlington County Division of Parks and Natural Resources, 2700 South Taylor Street, Arlington, VA 22206 or by fax to 703-228-6507. Nomination forms for the 2013 award program are due by June 15, 2013.
Recognition decisions are made by the Committee which expects to award about six certifications per year. Criteria utilized are listed under the Basis for Nomination, on the nomination form. Visit the Landscape Recognition Awards page for more information, including previous award-winners and photos of award-winning properties.
Awards are presented at a September board meeting of the Arlington County Board. If you have questions about this program, please contact us by calling 703-228-7747.
