We'd like to share a variety of other community opportunities that are available outside of PRCR. Below you'll find Classes in the Community (some of which have specific dates!) and other Community Resources. This information is provided as a resource to the community and does not imply any endorsement nor affiliation. Classes in the Community

Adapted Martial Arts (4-12)

Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do has weekly classes to help students improve motor skills, coordination, focus and self control through martial arts drills and games. Intermediate & advanced classes also available. Please call 703-532-7433, visit their website, or email adaptivetkd@tkdlifeskills.com for more information.

  • Classes begin April 14 and run through June 16. Register now!
  • Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced classes, times vary according to level
  • $195/class (first time students pay additional $70 for uniform)
 

Community Resources

TOPSoccerTOPSoccer

TOPSoccer provides specialized soccer skills training and social interactions for children ages 4-19 who have a disability. Participants will work with a soccer buddy every Saturday during their Winter Season, .

  • TOPSoccer meets on Saturday afternoons, 3:30-4:30p at Woodlawn Park, behind the Hospice. Please be sure not to park in the Hospice parking lot!
  • Spring Season runs April 14 – June 9, 2012.

EXTREME RECESS: BASKETBALL with the Washington Mystics

Please join Dreams for Kids on May 15, 2012 for our Extreme Recess: Basketball Clinic with the Washington Mystics! The event will feature players, coaches, mascots and trained instructors to give youths ages 4-24 of all abilities a chance to play basketball like the Pros! AND Mystics players WILL be stopping by the clinic again this year to coach the kids on shooting hoops! EXTREME RECESS: LACROSSE with Georgetown Athletics

Please join Dreams for Kids on June 16, 2012 for our Extreme Recess: Lacrosse Clinic with Georgetown University Athletics! The THIRD annual Lacrosse Clinic will provide children ages 4-24 of all abilities the chance to participate in drills and exercises with a paired volunteer! Cool Cats Hockey (5-12)

Fairfax Falcons Paralympic Sports Team

Fairfax Falcons is a Fairfax County recreational Paralympic sports team that provides individuals, ages 6-22, a wide range of sports experiences, teamwork, and socialization skills. Youth from all counties in the Northern Virginia area are eligible to participate. Fairfax Falcons primary sports are wheelchair basketball and track/field (ambulatory and wheelchair-based). Special Olympics – Various Sports (8+)

BlazeSports

National Rehabilitation Hospital's BlazeSports Washington DC℠ offers sports programming to children and adults with physical disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs, have a neuro-muscular disability such as cerebral palsy or spina bifida or have an amputation. Sports offered: quad rugby, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis and sled hockey. For all sports, please contact Joan Joyce at 202-877-1420.
