The Final Draft Public Spaces Master Plan (PSMP) is the update to the 1994 Open Space Master Plan (240KB, PDF Format), an Arlington County Comprehensive Plan element. The PSMP is designed to guide decision making for Arlington County's public spaces including administration, funding, operations, maintenance and capital projects. The recommendations identified in the plan are organized around four guiding themes: expansion, optimizing use of public space, connectivity and accessibility. During the collaborative planning process undertaken by staff and residents to update the plan, the theme of "Where the Community Comes Together" emerged.
Since 2001, there has been an extensive community process that has included several community forums, numerous Open Space Master Plan Task Force meetings, as well as smaller working group meetings that delved into six specific focus areas. Additionally, two mail/telephone surveys were administered as part of this effort: one household recreation survey in 2002 and one youth recreation survey in 2003.
As a next step to the County Board adopting the new plan, two public meetings have been scheduled for November 28 and December 10 to present this plan and to gather public comments and to answer questions from residents.
The final draft of the plan is also available for review at all Arlington County Libraries. Copies of the final draft plan (470KB, PDF Format) will be mailed to residents upon request by calling (703) 228-3322.
