Clarendon House Services

 

The Clarendon House incorporates a case management team to provide integrated service delivery to the members of the program. The team consists of 4 full-time case managers. The case management team provides comprehensive services ranging from assistance with housing resources to financial entitlements:

Housing
 
  • Home visits
  • Assistance with housing grants and/or Section 8 paperwork
  • Apartment searches
  • Housing maintenance
Medical 
  • Assistance with medical appointments
  • Helping members understand the importance of continuous medical care (yearly check-ups, etc.)
  • Involving members in self-care of health concerns such as diabetes, blood pressure, medication management
Psychiatric 
  • Assistance in understanding psychiatric symptoms and medications
  • Monitoring of psychiatric symptoms
  • Crisis intervention
  • Assisting members into the hospital when necessary
  • Working with Clarendon House team and the psychiatrist
  • Service coordination with group home
  • Encouragement with hygiene when symptoms make it difficult to keep up with showering and clean clothes
  • Assistance in understanding psychiatric symptoms and medications
Financial Entitlements 
  • Assistance with filing financial papers and other documents
  • Accompanying members to financial aid appointments
  • Work with others in the system to help secure financial entitlements
  • Help with budgeting
  • Access to emergency funding when needed

PSYCHOSOCIAL AND RECOVERY SERVICES

The Clarendon House program offers an array of activities, groups and workshops. Groups include Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), peer support, creative writing group, recovery group and art group.

PEER OUTREACH TEAM
The mission of the peer outreach team is to provide extra support to the members of the Clarendon House. The team is consumer-run and provides communication through cards, phone calls and visits. The support is offered to those consumers who are not attending the program on a regular basis or are unable to come to the program due to being hospitalized, in jail or medically ill.

RECREATIONAL SERVICES
Clarendon House provides recreational opportunities for members on Wednesday evenings, Friday afternoons, and every Saturday. Members and staff enjoy social activities in the community such as dinner, movies, sporting events and festivals.

MEDICAL SERVICES
Medical services include a nurse on staff and a psychiatrist from the Arlington County Mental Health Center. Two clinics are held at Clarendon House every week, when members and staff are able to meet and coordinate with the psychiatrist, and discuss ongoing or emergency medication and medical needs.

EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
Clarendon House offers transitional employment placements for members of the program. Services offered at Clarendon House are on-the-job training, back-up services, coordination with managers of the placements, coordination with the Job Avenue employment program, and notifying agencies (housing, social security, etc.) about income, etc. Clarendon House will also help members become independently employed. The staff will work with members on job skills and interests, preparation for interviews, purchasing proper attire, and other assistance a member may need in order to find and stay successful on a job.


PRE-VOCATIONAL SERVICES

The Communications Unit
The Communications Unit provides opportunities to learn about and enhance administrative, clerical, and communications skills that support the Clubhouse program, as well as provide an exchange of information between the Clubhouse and the community.

Communications Unit Responsibilities:

  • Production of monthly newsletter
  • Receptionist duties
  • Outreach services, such as sending cards to members
  • Oversight of the Poetry Review in Spring and Fall

The Food Unit
The Food Unit offers healthy, nutritious, and well-balanced meals and snacks, prepared in a clean environment, by providing assistance with skills development, food-related education, and consumer awareness to the Clubhouse community.

Food Unit Responsibilities:

  • Prepare daily lunches
  • Operate the Clubhouse Cafe
  • Prepare annual Holiday Party and Thanksgiving dinner
  • Train consumers on proper food handling and storage
  • Conduct food education, menu planning, and exercise group
  • Practice price checking and comparison shopping through food shopping

The Maintenance Unit
The Maintenance Unit provides an attractive, safe, and clean environment for Clubhouse members.

Maintenance Unit Responsibilities:

  • Train members for entry-level janitorial positions
  • Learn valuable employment skills in the areas of sanitizing, proper cleaning procedures, and other building maintenance tasks
  • Maintain outside grounds of the Clubhouse
  • Plant and maintain flower gardens and seasonal decorations

The program is always looking for volunteers to teach computer skills, run exercise groups, and help with special events.
