Because Arlington County does not collect inert materials curbside, a drop-off facility is provided to Arlington residents. Inert materials include brick, masonry block, concrete, asphalt, rock, earth, sand, and ceramic tile. Only small quantities of material can be accepted (one pickup truckload, or up to three cubic yards, per month per resident).
The scrap metal recycling drop-off program is intended for smaller scrap metal items that are less than 50 pounds in weight, which do not need to be collected curbside with the large crane truck. This program is open to all County residents. A recycling fee is charged for some items - please check the list of chargeable items before making an appointment. Chargeable items are only accepted by appointment from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday – Friday at the inert materials and scrap metal drop-off facility.
Accepted items include: bed frames, bed springs, bikes, tire rims, charcoal grills, metal chairs, metal blinds, small metal appliances (toaster, vacuum, etc.), metal ladders, metal pipes, or small pieces of metal. Any items requiring special handling (washer, dryer, refrigerator, air conditioner, water heater, exercise equipment) will not be accepted under the drop-off program. To participate, you must call to make an appointment for drop-off at (703) 228-6570.
