Brush, Mulch and Fill Dirt

Residents can obtain mulch made from leaves and wood collected in the County. Residents can pick up free mulch at two sites in the County (depending on availability), or can order mulch to be delivered to their home for a small charge.
Mulch and Fill Dirt Information
- Leaf mulch is shredded leaf materials from the County's Fall Leaf Collection Program.
- Wood mulch is made from tree trimmings and tree removals in the County.
- Arlington County has free fill dirt available by request. This fill dirt consists of a sandy, silty, clay material with gravel or small asphalt particles. This material contains little vegetative material and is not suitable as topsoil application without enhancement.
- 2 ½ cubic yards is approximately 8 feet in diameter and 2 feet high. 5 cubic yards is approximately 8 feet in diameter and 4 feet high. View photos of the orders.
- Prices include delivery to your residence.
- Deliveries are made Monday - Friday (except holidays), between 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Free Mulch - Pickup Only
Residents may pick up free leaf or wood mulch, depending on availability, at two sites in the County:
- North 26th St. and Yorktown Blvd. (view map) - 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
- 4300 29th St South, at the Trades Center (view map) - see below for hours
Trade Center Mulch Pickup Hours
Monday – Friday, 5:00 a.m.- 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, 7:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
Sunday/Holidays, CLOSED
*Beginning on Tuesday September 5, 2006, the Trade Center gate at Arlington Mill and S. Taylor will be locked after hours and on Sundays.

Choose a delivery date from our online calendar and receive immediate confirmation of your scheduled delivery date. Mulch and dirt deliveries are made Monday - Friday (except holidays) between 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Delivery fees will be applied to your next quarterly utility bill. If you do not have a utility account, please contact DES Customer Service at 703-228-6570, Monday - Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (except holidays).

Mulch/Dirt Orders by Fax or Mail
- Download a Mulch Order Form, Dirt Order Form or request an order form be faxed to you by calling 703-228-6570 and selecting option # 1.
- Fax the completed Mulch/Dirt Order Form to 703-228-6504 or mail the completed form to the Solid Waste Bureau, 4300 29th Street South, Arlington VA 22206.
Upon receipt of your completed form, a customer service representative will contact you to schedule a delivery date. Delivery fees will be applied to your next quarterly utility bill.
