Street Light Information
Report a Street Light Outage: For all street light outages, call the hotline at (703) 228-6570 or use the Street Light Report Form. You will need to provide the exact location of the street light(s) and a pole number. A pole number typically begins with two letters. Some street lights are serviced by Dominion Virginia Power, while others are serviced by Arlington County. Arlington County poles are black with yellow text.
Street Lighting Program
The Street Lighting Program is responsible for planning, designing, and coordinating street light construction, conversion, and installation. This program supports street light additions through funding from:
- Neighborhood Conservation Program
- Comprehensive Community Improvement Program
- Apartment Conservation Program
- Business Conservation Program
- Capital Improvements Program
- Department of Environmental Services
The Department of Environmental Services Transportation Engineering Division has responsibility for 14,000 street lights throughout the County. The Signals Operations Team maintains 1,400 of those street lights while the remainder are serviced by Dominion Virginia Power. A street light is installed to illuminate the traveled way area of bikeways, sidewalks and roads.

LED Street Lighting in Residential Areas
Arlington is deploying the latest state-of-the-art, intelligent light-emitting diode (LED) streetlight and signal technology throughout the County to modernize the network, reduce overall costs and minimize the environmental impact.

There are several reasons that warrant new street light installation:
- Community or safety need
- Lack of proper lighting
- Improving existing lighting
- Replacing existing pole mounted lights

Requests for New Street Lights
Requests should be directed to Transportation Engineering at (703) 228-6511. We will need the following information:
- Name
- Address
- Location for requested light(s)
- Phone (daytime and evening)
- Reason for requesting street light(s)
- Are there existing street lights in the area?
