Pentagon City Pedestrian Tunnel Repair Project
This project involves repair and cleaning activities to commission a previously constructed but unused entryway to the Pentagon City Metro Station.
The opening of the entryway will provide an additional access/egress point to this busy Metrorail station, one of the County's highest ridership stations, and to the adjacent retail shopping mall, Fashion Centre.

Ballston-MU Metro Elevator Project
Ballston-MU station has three new elevators from the street level to the station mezzanine – one new elevator on the north side of Fairfax Drive next to the existing elevator and two new elevators on the south side of Fairfax Drive . A new underground passage connects the new south side elevators to the station mezzanine. With a total of four elevators, Ballston-MU station will be more accessible than ever before. That's great news for our bus customers, customers with disabilities or for anyone with large packages, strollers, bikes, etc. Construction under this $10 million design-build contract, sponsored by Arlington County and managed by Metro, began in September 2004 and was completed in April of 2006, two months ahead of schedule.

Crystal City Station Escalator and Pedestrian Canopies
The canopy will protect the escalators from the weather and thereby improve reliability and passenger convenience. The canopy design is similar to the one installed at the Virginia Square Metro Station. Metro will also build an adjacent canopy over the sidewalk from the Crystal City bus bay area to the escalator to provide continuous shelter for station users.

Metro will build a canopy over the escalators at the east side entrance and a canopy over the escalators at the west side entrance on S. Hayes Street. The community has endorsed the signature canopy design. As per “lessons learned” and by community request, the canopy will overhang the sides of the parapet.

Master Transportation Plan ( MTP )
In October 2004, the Arlington County Board directed the Transportation Commission and County staff to undertake and update of the County's Master Transportation Plan ( MTP ). Arlington 's MTP was last comprehensively rewritten in 1986.
