Development and Plan Review

The Development and Plan Review Section is responsible for the coordination and review of public infrastructure improvements associated with new development and redeveloped sites countywide.  Areas of coordination include site plan review, traffic engineering and operations, transit, utilities and storm water management.

Site Plan Review

Coordinates county and state review and approval of development plans in accordance with the Arlington County 4.1 Site Plan Regulations.

Evaluates and coordinates the review of the following for development proposals:

  • streetscape and street improvements, 
  • water lines, 
  • sanitary sewer, 
  • utility undergrounding, 
  • erosion and sediment control, 
  • storm water management, 
  • street lights and 
  • transit access improvements

Advisory to County Board and Commissions

Represents the Department of Environmental Services (DES) in advising  the Transportation Commission, the Planning Commission and the County Board on transportation issues as they pertain to major site plans and rezoning projects, use permits, and General Land Use Plan (GLUP) amendments.

Permits

Issues permits and collects review and inspection fees associated with development plans.
