First Saturday of each month, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (except holidays, closed Nov. 26, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31)

  • Chargeable items are not accepted on Saturdays
  • Only small quantities of material will be accepted per resident once per month (one pickup truck load, or up to 3 cubic yards)
  • Contractors and non-residents are not allowed to drop off material
  • Trash and building construction material will not be accepted
  • Inert material will be reprocessed and reused in County construction projects and scrap metal will be recycled

The small metal drop-off container located at the corner of Columbia Pike and S. Four Mile Run will be relocated to the Earth Products Yard beginning Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012. For more information, please call (703) 228-6570.

What's Accepted for Inert Materials and Scrap Metal Drop-Off

Inert materials include masonry block, concrete, asphalt, rock, earth, sand and ceramic tile. Only small quantities of material can be accepted. Brush material will no longer be accepted in the inert material drop off program. Please schedule a brush collection by requesting a brush pickup online 24/7 or call (703) 228-6570, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (after hours select option 2). When making the request, please stay connected until you receive the confirmation message that will contain the scheduled date for your brush pickup. Requests made the same day of your trash collection day must be received by 6:30 a.m. to be processed for that day.

Scrap metal drop off is intended for smaller scrap metal items that are less than 50 lbs. in weight and do not need to be collected curbside with the large crane truck. A recycling fee is charged for some items.

Free Paper Shredding

  • First Saturday of each month, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Paper shredding is for residents only (sorry, businesses are not allowed)
  • Limit of two boxes (no bigger than 18x11x10) or two paper bags per customer
  • Acceptable: Paper (including staples, paper clips), checks/check books
  • Unacceptable: Magazines, catalogs, credit cards, three-ring binders or phone book sized material
