The Penrose community has requested sidewalks along 8th Street S. as far back as 1969. County staff has been actively involved with the Penrose Civic Association and residents throughout the project. Feedback received from the community was incorporated into the project plans while meeting the goals of the Master Transportation Plan (MTP). The Penrose Civic Association circulated a petition for residents to choose between a 30-foot or 27-foot roadway with a 5-foot sidewalk. The majority chose the 27-foot wide street option which was designed and is currently being constructed.
The project is funded through the WalkArlington Program.
