About Us
Transportation issues are at the forefront of the “smart growth” principles to which the County is committed. Arlington’s emphasis on transit-oriented development and multimodal transportation have clear environmental benefits. Bringing the County’s experts on transportation and transit together will enhance coordination and ensure a robust infrastructure moving forward. This division includes Transportation Planning, and Transportation Engineering and Operations.
Utilities and Environmental Policy Division
This team has long been responsible for maintaining a clean environment, ensuring clean water is returned to Four Mile Run – and, ultimately, the Chesapeake Bay – and providing solid waste management services. Now, this expertise is being combined with the complementary programs at Water/Sewer/Streets, bringing all of the County's water and environmental programs together. The division also includes the Water Pollution Control Plant, Utility Billing, Solid Waste and Environmental Planning.
Engineering and Capital Projects Division
Arlington’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) is a major, multi-million-dollar undertaking critical to investment in the community’s future. To provide a systematic and thorough approach to this vital program, the County is consolidating all capital projects and engineering activities into one department, including Facilities Planning, Engineering and Real Estate. The goal is to reduce the time between project approval and project completion in order to save money and fulfill community expectations. Sound environmental design will also be incorporated in projects.
General Services will focus on managing and maintaining the County’s extensive community assets, ensuring prudent reinvestment and effective energy management. This division includes Facilities Maintenance, Custodial Services, Printing and Equipment.
