Arlington Prepares Mobile App
Preparedness is Everyone’s Responsibility
To help residents, visitors, and businesses prepare for a natural disaster or other emergency situation, the Arlington County Office of Emergency Management has created the Arlington Prepares app to help you:
- Be Informed – What to do in case of an emergency; up-to-the-minute alerts; sources for local emergency news.
- Make a Plan – Create disaster kits; choose emergency meeting places; and quickly access personal and medical information, as well as public and personal emergency contact phone numbers.
- Get Involved – How to get involved with a number of local volunteer organizations that provide public services during emergency situations.
By knowing where to get information, having the right supplies, and having a plan for you, your loved ones, and your pets, you can protect yourself and your family. The tools in this app help ensure that no matter where you are or what you are doing you'll be prepared when a crisis happens.

Q1) How do I display the application in Spanish?
A1) The application responds to your phone's language settings. If your phone is set for English, the app will display in English. If your phone is set to Spanish, then the app displays in Spanish.
Q2) What was used to create this app?
A2) The app was built in-house using SenchaTouch (JavaScript) and PhoneGap. The code for the Android version and the Sencha Touch version (pre-Phone Gap) is licensed as open-source code.
Q3) Why do you ask me to grant permissions to the application when I download it?
A3) The application checks to see if your phone is on a network, and if so, makes a connection to see if there is updated information to download and downloads it. It also allows you to grab contacts from your address book and store then in our app, and save contacts created in our app to your address book. No information that you enter into the app is stored at all by Arlington County.
