ARLINGTON, Va. --- As Arlington Public Schools prepare to reopen Tuesday, Feb. 16, County officials ask all property owners to help get the kids back to school by clearing sidewalks.
To assist Arlington Public Schools (APS), Arlington County snow crews have focused on APS priorities, including roads to schools, as well as school parking lots.
“It’s going to take our whole village to get these children back to school,” said Barbara Donnellan, Acting Arlington County Manager. “Our snow crews are literally working around the clock to clear snow; what we need now is for property owners to do their best to make the children’s routes to school as safe as possible. The Superintendent and I – and thousands of parents – thank you for your help.”
On Tuesday, Arlington Public Schools will open with a two-hour delay, to avoid the morning traffic rush. >>> Read the release.
The County has a limited number of snowblowers available to lend to Civic Associations or community groups to assist with clearing routes to schools and to Metro stops, or to clear the walkways of disabled neighbors. Training is available: call 703-228-6522.
