ARLINGTON, Va. –The world famous Georgetown Flea Market has temporarily relocated from Georgetown in Washington, DC, to Arlington.  The Courthouse Plaza parking lot will be its new home for the next 18 months.

The market, a Georgetown fixture for 35 years, began operating at Courthouse Plaza on May 7.  It relocated due to the ongoing renovation of the Hardy Middle School, where the market has functioned since 1988.  The market will reopen in December 2007 when Hardy’s renovation is completed.

Along with its easy-to-reach location, the new site at Courthouse Plaza provides space for up to 150 vendors and free underground parking for 600 vehicles.

The market is composed of high quality vendors of antiques, collectibles and crafts.  Over the years, it has been featured in The New York Times, Gourmet magazine, The Washington Post and other national publications.  It was named one of the top 10 flea markets nationwide by Organic Style magazine in 2005, and featured in Mary Randolph Carter’s American Junk – a coffee table-style book on best treasure hunting locales for Americana collectors.

It also has acquired an eclectic following of local residents, tourists, politicians, Supreme Court justices, and even the occasional movie star (Diane Keaton), and best selling author (Larry McMurtry).

The market is sponsored by the Clarendon Alliance, and a partnership between the business community, civic groups and Arlington County.

To visit the market, take Metro’s Orange line to the Court House Metro station.  Free underground parking also is available at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.  Hours of operation are Sundays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  For more information contact Michael Sussman at (202) 775-FLEA, or visit, www.georgetownfleamarket.com

Arlington, Va., is a world-class residential, business and tourist location that was originally part of the "10 miles square" parcel of land surveyed in 1791 to be the Nation's Capital. It is the geographically smallest self-governing county in the United States, occupying slightly less than 26 square miles. Arlington maintains a rich variety of stable neighborhoods, quality schools and enlightened land use, and received the Environmental Protection Agency's highest award for "Smart Growth" in 2002. Home to some of the most influential organizations in the world - including the Pentagon - Arlington stands out as one of America's preeminent places to live, visit and do business.
