Land Records Division

 

The Land Records Division is designed for the public to do their research. Deeds, wills, deeds of trust, liens, releases, etc. are filed with the Court Clerk. The Clerk must assess and collect a recordation tax and preserve the record of the document. All documents presented for recordation must be originals, and must be signed and notarized before they can be recorded. The Land Records Division has forms for Certificates of Satisfaction, Certificates of Transfer, Releases of Mechanic's Lien, and Releases of Lis Pendens.

Real property transactions involving property located within the City of Falls Church must be recorded with the Arlington County Circuit Court.

The Circuit Court does not record nor maintain information regarding the assessed value of real estate. Inquiries pertaining to assessments should be directed to the Arlington Real Estate Assessments Office.

Open Hours:

  • Recording: 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
  • Record Room (open for research): 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday - Friday

Obtaining Copies of Deeds & Other Land Records

  • Include the deed book and page number reference.
    • The deed book and page number reference for land records may be obtained in the Record Room in the Circuit Court.
  • If you have the deed book and page number reference, copy requests may be mailed to the Arlington County Circuit Court, Attention: Land Records Division, 1425 N. Courthouse Road, Suite 6200, Arlington, Virginia 22201.
  • Copies of Land Records cost 50¢ per page and $2.00 per certification (of copy).

Land Records Research

Deed books are available in the following formats:

  • 1977 - present may be accessed on microfilm.
  • 1940 - 1977 are kept in bound books throughout the Record Room.
  • prior to 1940 are maintained in the Archives research room located in Suite 6200 of the Courthouse.
