Thanksgiving Holiday

All Arlington County administrative offices, public libraries and nature centers will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27 in observance of Thanksgiving. Arlington Public Schools will also be closed on Wednesday, November 25, and courts will close at noon on Wednesday, November 25. County offices, courts and schools will resume normal schedules on Monday, November 30. Detailed information below.

Christmas and New Year's Holidays

All Arlington County administrative offices, public libraries and nature centers will be closed on Thursday and Friday, December 24 and 25 for the Christmas holiday and on Thursday December 31 and Friday January 1 for the New Year. Detailed information on schedule changes and closings for these days will be added to this page after Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Day Holiday - Schedule Changes

Arlington Public Schools: Arlington Public Schools will be closed Nov. 25-27. Administrative offices will be closed Nov. 26-27.

ART Bus and STAR: ART 41 and 51 will operate a Sunday service schedule on Thursday, November 26. ART 41, 42, 51 and 87 will operate a Saturday schedule on Friday, November 27. No other regularly-scheduled ART services will be operated on this holiday. The ART information call center -- 703-228-RIDE (7433) -- and all Commuter Stores will be closed on this day.

STAR (Specialized Transportation for Arlington Residents): The STAR Call Center will be closed and all standing order rides cancelled on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27. If you need your ride for this holiday, please call the Call Center in advance to book rides.

Courts: All Arlington courts -- Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court -- are closed at noon on Wednesday, November 25, and will be closed November 26 and 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday. For more information, call the Clerk of the Court:

DMV Select: Arlington's DMV Select will be closed on November 26 and 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
>>DMV Select is located on the 2^nd floor of the County's government center, 2100 Clarendon Blvd. and can handle most Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) activities with NO WAITING. With rare exceptions, DMV Select is open and closed the same hours as the Arlington County Government offices.

Human Services: All Department of Human Services public assistance services, clinics, administrative offices, and the Arlington Employment Center will be closed.

Libraries: All library locations are closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27.

Parking Meters: Meters are not enforced on County holidays.

Parks & Recreation Programs and Facilities

Administrative offices: All Parks and Recreation administration offices are closed November 26-27 for Thanksgiving.
Nature Centers: Gulf Branch and Long Branch Nature Centers will be closed November 26-27. Park grounds and trails will be open. For more information, visit the Nature Centers website.
Enjoy Arlington! classes (formerly Recreation & Leisure classes): Enjoy Arlington! classes are not held on any holiday. Classes will not meet November 26-27. For November 28-29, please check with your instructor. Please check with your instructor if you have any questions.
Community Centers: All centers are closed on Thanksgiving Day. All centers are closed Friday, November 27 except Barcroft Sports & Fitness Center, which is open from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm. Thomas Jefferson and Gunston Center will be closed November 26 - 29, 2009.
Powhatan Springs Skatepark: November 26 open 8:00 am - 8:00 pm with no access to bathroom usage. November 27 open 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Normal hours November 28.

Trash and Recycling: Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27 --

Trash and Recycling collection: There will be regular service.
Leaf Collection
- Vacuum - There will be no collection on Thursday, Nov. 26. Service will resume on Friday, Nov. 27.
- Biodegradable bags - There will be regular service.
Brush and Metal: There will be regular service.
Cart repairs: There will be no service.
Household Hazardous Materials: The HHM facility will be closed Saturday, Nov. 28. No drop-off appointments will be scheduled on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27.
