Inauguration Day 2009 and the events that surround it promise to be a historic and memorable occasion for everyone. Arlington County is focused on ensuring that as many commuters and Inaugural attendees travel as efficiently and safely as possible. Restricted bridges and roadways will alter routes and delay travel times, so plan accordingly.

Metrorail
Pentagon City, Crystal City, and Ronald Reagan National Airport stations.

Metrobus and Arlington Transit (ART) – Visit Metro's website and use “Metro Trip Planner” to calculate your Metrobus route, or visit CommuterPage.com to find your ART route. All local bus service in Arlington and services between Arlington and the District are being operated as free fare on Inauguration Day. Tip: Be sure to note your bus number for the return trip!

Main Bus Route: (Metrobus runs 5AM to 7PM)

  • *NEW!* Greatly expanded Metrobus service for this area, including direct service into the District.
  • Metrobus 13, (special Inauguration service) – Crystal City and Pentagon City Metrorail Stations via the 14th Street Bridge to 13th and C Street SW (two blocks from the Smithsonian Metrorail Station).  Note:  this is a direct service to DC – no transfer to Metrorail is required. (every 10–15 minutes)
  • Metrobus 13B, (special Inauguration service) – Pentagon Metrorail Stations via the 14th Street Bridge to 13th and C Street SW (two blocks from the Smithsonian Metrorail Station).  Note:  this is a direct service to DC – no transfer to Metrorail is required. (every 10–15 minutes)
  • Metrobus 9S, (weekday circulator service) – Crystal City – Potomac Yards loop connecting to Crystal City Metrorail Station and the Metrobus 13 service.  Note: this is local circulator service and does not extend into the District – transfer to Metrorail or Metrobus 13 is required. (every 10–15 mins).

Arterial Bus Routes: (ART runs 6AM to 8PM)

  • ART Bus 42 – Ballston to Pentagon (every 30 minutes)
  • Metrobus 9A - Huntington, Rt. 1 to Pentagon (every 30 minutes)
  • Metrobus 10A - Huntington Towers – Pentagon (every 30 minutes)
  • Metrobus 22B - Pentagon – Army Navy Line (every 40 minutes)
  • Metrobus 23A - McLean – Crystal City Line (every 30 minutes)
  • Metrobus 25A - Ballston – Shirlington – Pentagon (every 60 minutes)

Bicycling
From Crystal Dr. at 18th St. S., ride north on the Mt. Vernon Trail. Cross Memorial Bridge. Turn right at Lincoln Circle, then right at Ohio Dr. The South Bike Valet is at the Jefferson Memorial. (About 4.5 miles)

Walking
From Crystal Dr. at 18th St. S., walk north on the Mt. Vernon Trail. Cross the 14th St. Bridge via sidewalk and continue on to the National Mall. (About 3.25 miles)

Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor (Wilson and Clarendon Blvds.)

Rosslyn, Courthouse, Clarendon, Virginia Square/GMU, Ballston stations.

Bus
All buses serving Arlington will be free on Inauguration Day (ART and Metrobuses). Metrobus will run 4 am to 9 pm; ART will run 6 am to 8 pm.  Tip: Remember your bus number for the return trip.

  • Metrobus 38S, from Ballston Metrorail Station via Wilson Blvd & Roosevelt Bridge to and from Potomac Park at 23rd and Virginia Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. (every 10 minutes) Express service to D.C. (no transfer to Metrorail).

  • ART Bus 41 –West Columbia Pike, Ballston Common Mall to Courthouse (every 20 minutes)
  • ART Bus 53 –Ballston Station to North Arlington to East Falls Church (every 30 minutes)
  • ART Bus 51 – Ballston Station to Virginia Hospital Center (every 35 minutes)
  • Metrobus 1A- Wilson Blvd. Line to Ballston (every 30 minutes)
  • Metrobus 2B,C -Washington Blvd. Line to Ballston (every 30 minutes)
  • Metrobus 4B,H - Pershing Dr./Arlington Blvd. Line to Rosslyn (every 60 minutes)
  • Metrobus 5A - Dulles Line via I-66 to Rosslyn (every 60 minutes)
  • Metrobus 10B - Huntington Towers - Ballston Line (every 30 minutes)
  • Metrobus 25A - Ballston – Shirlington – Pentagon (every 60 minutes)

Bicycling
Use the Custis Trail or Clarendon Blvd. bike lanes. From Rosslyn, cross Key Bridge on the sidewalk. Turn right on M St., then right on Pennsylvania Ave. Turn left on L St. and continue until you reach the North Bike Valet. (About 1.75 miles)

Walking
Use the Custis Trail or Clarendon Blvd. bike lanes. From Rosslyn, cross Key Bridge on the sidewalk. Turn right on M St., then right on Pennsylvania Ave. Continue on Pennsylvania Ave. to the National Mall (About 1.75 miles)

  • Metrobus 16S, and follows Columbia Pike to Pentagon Metrorail Station then via 14th St. Bridge to and from 12th & Maine Ave., SW. (every 10 minutes) Express service to D.C. (no transfer to Metrorail).

  • ART Bus 41 – From West Columbia Pike, Ballston Common Mall to Courthouse (every v20 minutes)
  • Metrobus 10B - Huntington Towers - Ballston Line (every 30 minutes)
  • Metro Bus 16G – Follows Columbia Pike to Pentagon Station, and DC (every 15 minutes)

Bicycling
From S. Walter Reed Dr., go east on Columbia Pike. Turn left on S. Orme St., right on Southgate Rd., then turn left back onto Columbia Pike.  Continue along the side path and under the Washington Blvd. cloverleaf to the Pentagon parking area.  Access to the Washington Blvd. trail is immediately adjacent to the Pentagon Memorial on the left. Continue along Washington Blvd., and cross Memorial Bridge. Turn right at Lincoln Circle and right again at Ohio Dr. The South Bike Valet is at the Jefferson Memorial. (About 4.5 miles)

Walking
From S. Walter Reed Dr., go east on Columbia Pike. Turn left on S. From Lee Highway, use the Custis Trail at its intersection with I-66. Cross Key Bridge using the sidewalk. Turn right on M St., then right on Pennsylvania Ave. Continue on Pennsylvania Ave. to the National Mall. (About 3.0 miles)
