TRAFFIC ALERT: 2005 Independence Day holiday road closures


ARLINGTON, VA

The Arlington County Police Department will close several streets on Monday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday. Listed below are the streets that will be closed to traffic:

From 6:00 a.m. to midnight:

  • Memorial Bridge/Memorial Circle and the Iwo Jima Marine Corps Memorial

    From 3:00 p.m. to midnight:
  • eastbound Washington Blvd. between I-395 (exit 8B) and Memorial Bridge
  • eastbound Columbia Pike (Rt. 244) between S. Joyce St. and the Pentagon
  • N. Meade St. from Marshall Dr. to Rt. 50
  • Marshall Dr. from Rt. 110 to N. Meade St.
  • eastbound N. Fairfax Dr. from N. Pierce St. to N. Fort Myer Dr.
  • exit ramp from westbound Rt. 50 to N. Lynn St. (Rosslyn exit)
  • exit ramp from eastbound Rt. 50 to N. Meade St. (Rosslyn exit)

    From 5:00 p.m. to midnight:
  • eastbound Rt. 50 at N. Pershing Dr. (detour at N. Barton St. or Washington Blvd.)

    From 8:30 p.m. to midnight:
  • Ft. Myer Drive from Wilson Blvd. to the Meade St. bridge (access to the Ft. Myer Heights neighborhood will be via the Rhodes St. bridge)

    Employees requiring access to the Pentagon should enter South Parking from Army-Navy Dr. or North Parking from Boundary Channel Dr.

    Arlington County residents and visitors are also reminded that:
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on county and federal parkland during Independence Day events.
  • Vendors will not be allowed in the area of the Iwo Jima Memorial.
  • Coolers and backpacks will be subject to search.

    Independence Day event attendees are strongly encouraged to use public transportation. The Rosslyn Metro stop on the Orange Line is approximately 5 blocks north of the Iwo Jima Memorial.
