Arlington Virginia Police S.W.A.T. Unit
The Special Weapons and Tactics Team (S.W.A.T.) is a component of the Emergency Response Team assigned to the Special Operations Section. The purpose of the S.W.A.T. team is to provide the department and the community with a means to contain or resolve high-risk situations involving armed subjects, hostage situations, snipers or ambushes.
All team members are permanently assigned to other units within the police department and are activated as a team or unit as needed. Every S.W.A.T. team member has received advanced training in specialized weapons and tactics enabling them to function as a team in resolving high stress incidents.
