This award, presented by the Arlington County Chamber of Commerce, is the highest recognition of an act involving extreme personal risk, which is clearly above and beyond the call of duty.
The valor award was established in 1981 for the recognition of the outstanding acts displayed by our officers involving extreme personal risk. The Arlington County Chamber of Commerce has supported and honored these officers and praised their accomplishments with the community. The department has an award ceremony every year giving these officers a Medal of Valor and a Valor award to be displayed on their uniforms. It is with extreme pride and gratitude that we honor these men and women for their courageous acts in support of their community.
This departmental award is bestowed upon any police officer who sustains a significant injury or wound in the diligent and professional performance of their duties. This award recognizes their personal sacrifice and risk of their own personal well being in their service to others. This award was instated in 1993.
