About Arlington County
The Arlington County Police Department has adopted a geographic-based policing philosophy. Rather than assigning responsibility by hour of day, personnel will be assigned by district. Personnel assigned to these districts will be responsible for that area 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They will be responsible for most police services provided to the community to include response to both emergency and non-emergency calls for service, preliminary criminal investigations, special event planning, and school liaison. Each district is commanded by a Police Captain who reports to the Deputy Chief of Operations.
