Q: How often can I get a ticket for the same violation?
A: You may receive a citation for the same violation at the same location every 24 hour period.
Q: I have a Handicap Placard or Disabled Tags. Do I still have to pay at the meters?
A: Yes, in Arlington County, disabled drivers must still pay to park. Meters have been made
available and are designated as “Handicap” parking only; however, you must still pay to
park.
Q: I put money in the meter; there’s no way it was expired.

Q: I received a ticket for No Decal. What is that?
A: Some jurisdictions in Virginia require the use of a County or City Decal to show proof of
payment of property taxes. Arlington County requires a decal and there is a $24 decal fee to
obtain the new decal.
Q: Can I receive a citation for a Zone Permit violation in front of my own house.
A: Yes, if you do not display the appropriate Zone Parking Permit, you may be issued a ticket.

Q: How long do I have to contest a parking ticket?
A: A court date can be requested to contest a parking ticket within 30 days from the issuance of
the ticket.
Q: How much are Court Costs?
A: Court Costs are established by the Virginia Assembly. Currently, they are $61 and are
subject to increase without prior notice.
Q: If I am found guilty, what will I have to pay?
A: If found guilty, you will be required to pay the fine and court costs. If you fail to appear
after having requested a court date, an additional $20 “No Show” fee will be added to your
fine and court costs. Failure to pay the fines and court costs may cause your driving
privileges in the Commonwealth of Virginia to be suspended.
Q: I can’t make the court date I have been assigned. What do I do?

Q: I have taken care of the problem that the ticket was issued for. Do I still have to pay?
A: Some violations may be Nolle Prosecuted by the Commonwealth Attorney or the Judge
based on compliance and incur no fine or costs. However, effective July 1, 2009, tickets for
No Virginia Inspection or Expired Inspection which are dismissed based on compliance will
have court costs applied regardless.
