basketballThe Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources (PRCR) offers a recreational house league basketball program for youth in grades 1-12.

Saturday Morning Instructional Program Grades 1-2

Walk-Up Registration: October 9 and October 11, 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Arlington Sports Office, 3700 S Four Mile Run Drive. Walk-up registration is also available at the Sports Office during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Fees: $75 through October 16, 2011. $90 on or after October 17.

Additional Information: All sessions are held at the TJ Community Center, 3501 South 2nd Street. The program is limited to the first 600 registrants. There will be a parent meeting (9:00am) and coaches meeting (10:30am) on December 3, 2011 at Thomas Jefferson Community Center.

Practice and Game Schedule: The league plays on Saturdays only. The first practice is December 10, 2011. First grade boys will play from 8:00-10:00am, first grade girls will play from 9:00am-10:00am, second grade girls will play from 10:00-11:00am, and second grade boys will play from 11:00-1:00pm. The first two weeks are clinics which will be held for a two hour period. After that teams will have two weeks of one hour practices during their grade's allotted time frame. The last four weeks will be guided games. There will be no practices/games on January 14 or February 18. The program will end on February 25, 2012.

Fees: 3rd Grade Developmental League - $80 through October 16. $95 on or after October 17, 2011.
         4th and 5th Grade Leagues - $85 through October 16. $100 on or after October 17, 2011.
         6th Grade, 7th and 8th Grade Leagues - $90 through October 16. $105 on or after October 17, 2011.

Additional Information: Participants will be placed on teams based on the school district in which they live or attend school. For grades 4-8, returning players on 2010-11 rosters who wish to remain on last year's team are given priority on 2011-12 rosters until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2011. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade teams will be formed randomly based on school districts. Players may include the name of 2-3 friends in the "special requests" section of the registration form, but we cannot guarantee placement on a specific team. Players in grade 3 who participated last year in the Saturday Morning basketball program will not have priority to return to last year’s team. This is a no-cut program; all players will play.

Players rostered on Arlington Travel Basketball, Arlington High School (Freshman or JV), or Private High School (Freshman or JV) teams are eligible to participate in the Arlington House League program but each team will be limited to a maximum of one (1) such player.

Team practices for grades 3-8 will begin the week of Monday, November 7 but could be later due to individual coaches’ schedules. Players will be notified prior by their coach to November 7 as to when and where their first practice session will take place. Teams practice for one hour twice a week until the winter holiday break. Beginning in January, teams will practice for one hour a week through the end of the season.

The 3rd Grade Developmental Leagues start their league games on Friday, January 6, 2012, with one game on December 9 or 16. All seven games will be played on Friday evenings. Games are played on 8 foot baskets. There are no post-season playoffs.

The 4th Grade Girls and 5th Grade Girls will play pre-season screening games on December 3. The 4th Grade Boys and 5th Grade Boys will play pre-season screening games on December 3 and/or December 10. League games will begin in January and will be played on seven consecutive Saturdays and three Mondays or three Fridays (based on competition level). 4th grade games are played on 9 foot baskets; 5th grade on regulation 10 foot baskets.

The 6th Grade and 7th-8th Grade Leagues will play pre-season bracket games December 3, 4, 10, and/or 11. League games will begin January 7. Games will be played primarily on Saturday with a few Sunday and/or weeknight games possible. Seven league games will be followed by post-season playoffs.

Games WILL be played on holiday weekends (January 13-15 and February 17-19), so please plan accordingly.

Walk-Up Registration: Tuesday, November 15 and Thursday, November 17 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Arlington Sports Office, 3700 S. Four Mile Run Drive. Walk-up registration is also available at the Sports Office during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Fees: $100 through November 28. $115 on or after November 29.

Practice: Practice will begin no later than the first week in January. Players will be notified by their coach prior to the first practice.  Teams will practice one night per week through the end of the season. The majority of practices will be held in the later weeknight time slots and on weekends.

Game Schedule: Game play begins January 7, 2012. Games will be played primarily on Saturday and Sunday with some weeknight games.

Team Selection: Any returning players on 2010-11 rosters who wish to remain on last year's team are given priority on 2011-12 rosters until 8:00 PM on Monday, November 28, 2011. This is a no-cut program. All players will be placed on a team. Players rostered on Arlington Travel Basketball, Arlington High School (JV or Freshman), or Private High School  (JV or Freshman) team are eligible to participate in the the Arlington House League Program. However, each of the house teams will be limited to a maximum of one (1) such player.

**Important: Players rosters on a varsity high school basketball team are not eligible to participate in Arlington House Basketball.**
