Greenbrier Park - Overview

Field at Greenbrier ParkThe Greenbrier Park Master Plan was approved by the County Board in May 2002. Greenbrier Park is a 17.51-acre community park and is one of the most heavily used athletic field complexes in the County. It serves as the primary facility for Yorktown High School and is a major complex for a variety of organized youth and adult sports and a facility for the surrounding neighborhoods. The main features of the park include a lighted synthetic competition field, a lighted baseball field, two lighted softball fields, running track, stormwater management, restrooms and support buildings, parking and landscaping.

Restroom/Storage building at Greenbrier ParkThe proposed Greenbrier Park Master Plan evolved from a community planning process that took place from October 2001 through March 2002. The plan was recommended for approval by the Planning Commission and received unanimous approval from the Arlington County Board in May 2002.

Park designers for the renovation of Greenbrier Park are Lewis Scully Gionet, Inc., with assistance from Bowie Gridley Architects, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. and Straughan Environmental Services, Inc., among others.

Funding for construction of the Park was part of the Fiscal Year 2005 Park Bond Referendum, which was approved by Arlington voters in November 2004. Construction began January 2006 and will be completed in phases with all construction complete by July 2007.
