Community Arts
The Department encourages the involvement of all segments of the community in the creative process. Community arts initiatives are designed to explore the relevance of the arts in daily life, increase citizen access to the arts, and address critical social concerns.
Artist Residencies
In-depth experiences that center on interaction between artists and participants are offered in community settings throughout the County. Recent examples include: the creation of a neighborhood mural; bringing at-risk youth together for a hip-hop poetry workshop; and the commission of a sculptural installation which illustrates the rich history of Arlington's African-American community.
Community Arts Facilitation
The Department provides assistance and resources to encourage and enable local artists and organizations to implement effective community arts programs and outreach initiatives. The facilitation includes various training programs, individual consultations and assistance with funding.
Public Art
The Department provides opportunities for meaningful collaboration between artists and the community to created exciting and attractive public spaces that are used and enjoyed by Arlington's resident, workers and visitors.
Art Card
Through special arrangements with County-supported arts organizations, we provide low-cost tickets for many performances to low-income groups and/or individuals from Arlington.
