DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES
DUAL DIAGNOSIS SERVICES

PROGRAM MISSION: To provide comprehensive dual diagnosis treatment and rehabilitation services to individuals in the County who are experiencing both serious mental illness and substance abuse dependency.

Dual Diagnosis Services was established from the recent review of all services and programs within the Behavioral Healthcare Division. It was determined that for the many County residents who experience both a serious mental illness and a substance dependence disorder there is a need for more specialized and intensive dual diagnosis programming. Due to the complexity of the illness, and the multiple needs of these individuals, an integrated and intensive level of services is needed. The new dual diagnosis program will provide community based case management services, psycho-educational groups, counseling, family involvement, medical services, and skill development to assist these consumers to live productively in the community. The staff will be trained in both substance abuse and mental health, and will provide integrated services. Experienced professionals, including two nationally known specialists, are developing the new programming.
