Stairway Identifier: Top of sign in 5/8" x 1/8" letters. Stairways are to be indicated by the letters of the alphabet; A, B, C, etc. . . beginning on the left side of the main entrance and proceeding clockwise around the perimeter of the building.

Floor Levels: 1-1/8" x 1/4" letters.
No Roof Access: 5/8" x 1/8" letters. When a stairway has no means of access to the roof, it must be indicated on the sign. Stairways having access to the roof shall not state so on the sign. Roof access may be by way of hatches, locked doors, or through an equipment room or penthouse.

Exit Level: Bottom of sign in 5/8" x 1/8" letters. This indicates the emergency level of exiting for the building (first floor, mezzanine, lobby, plaza, G-1 etc.)
Size of sign: The minimum size of a sign shall be 8 1/2" x 10".
Height restrictions: The height of the sign shall meet ADA height requirements of 60" on the horizontal centerline of the sign.
Sign location: The sign shall be located on the wall so as to be visible when the door is open, or closed.
Colors: Colors shall be contrasting (white-red; black-white; etc...).
